How We Govern

How We Govern

Our congregation is democratically governed.  The members of the church vote on important decisions, such as the church budget, usually at the three congregational meetings held periodically during the year.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees, which also is elected by the congregation, is the primary policy setting body of the congregation.  With guidance from the congregation, the board establishes the vision and annual goals for the church, and monitors their progress.  The board also recommends a budget to the congregation.  The board has nine members, including the church’s president, vice-president and treasurer and six at-large members.  The board meets at least monthly.

Program Team

Starting in the 2010-11 church year, another governing body will go into operation.  The Program Team, selected by the board and representative of the church’s major operating areas (such as religious education, facilities, Sunday services, and budget).  The Program Team’s tasks include implementing the church’s mission and vision as established by the Board; encouraging innovative programming; and coordinating scheduling of church activities.

Committees

Other administrative work of the church is performed by committees and teams comprised of volunteers, including membership, finance, religious education, buildings and grounds, caring, denominational affairs, social justice, and many others.  Three committees are elected by the congregation:  the endowment committee, which solicits for and manages our endowment; the Community Beacon Fund committee, which administers a fund for projects in the community and allocates grants from that fund; and the Leadership Fulfillment Committee, which ensures continuity of experienced, trained church leadership.
