Here’s what is happening this year with children and youth for our Religious Education program here at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis.
Religious Education (RE) Available During Second Service
RE is offered during our second service.
Children’s Program

- Preschoolers (3-5 years old) use the next curriculum in their rotation called “We are Many, We are One.”
- Kindergarten through 5th grade classes use a new program through the Unitarian Universalist Association called the Tapestry of Faith. K-5th will be divided into smaller classes: K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th.
- Kindergarten-1st grade use “Wonderful Welcome” where children are given the opportunity to identify intangible gifts central to Unitarian Universalism.
- The 2nd-3rd grade use “Faithful Journeys” which supports children in creating a strong Unitarian Universalist faith identity.
- The 4th-5th grade use “Toolbox of Faith” where they will reflect on qualities of our Unitarian Universalist faith, helping children create tools they can use throughout their own life.
Youth Program
Starting August 24, 2011, the 6th grade class will become part of the junior high youth program!
Our youth (6th-12th grades) will be split into two classes.
- The 6th-8th grade junior high class is continuing on their rotation of curriculum using our traditional Coming of Age program.
- The 9th-12th grade senior high class is focusing on a new social justice curriculum. They will concentrate on four different themes: Our Elders, Animal Rescue, Hunger & Homelessness, and Farming. Each theme will include a learning session with a documentary, a hands on session-in some cases out in the community, and will end with a discussion class where they will explore their experiences & how it all applies to them being UU.
Nursery Care
The nursery is open during both services. Again, first service there is childcare welcoming children in 5th grade and under. During the second service the nursery welcomes ages, 5 years old and younger.
Volunteer Opportunities
Each class and program is in need of volunteers. Remember our Religious Education program here at UUI is a family cooperative and cannot run without the help and support of volunteers.
Get more information on volunteering with UUI’s RE program.
Not sure what class your child is in?
Children and youth start in their new grades August 21, with the grade they are in this fall when they begin school.
