What is a Community Circle?

The Community Circle is based on the practice of the Listening Circle. The goal of a listening circle is for participants to develop understanding and appreciation of one another’s beliefs and perspectives by listening carefully to both the ideas and the feelings that each holds concerning a topic. It is a conversation instead of a debate, with respect being shown for all points of view.  Listening Circles aim at creating community and strengthening our humanity through simple acts of gathering, focusing, reflecting, speaking and listening to strengthen and deepen us, individually and collectively.

Some of the information we collect will be used by the Board in its long-range planning.  The Committee on Ministry will use some of it in its ongoing evaluation of the church’s ministries, and, depending on what we hear, other information will be passed along as appropriate to other groups and individuals in the church.

The next Community Circle Conversation is scheduled for Sunday, February 12, from 9:30 to 10:30 am.  Each group will be made up of approximately 8 – 10 people.  Please contact Jon Laramore at jon.laramore (at) bakerd.com to be placed into a group.  We need everyone’s input regarding the vision, hopes, and concerns for our church.
