What should we wear?
Most people dress casually and we encourage everyone to come to church as they are comfortable, keeping in mind that our children often play in the dirt, paint, cook and do other activities that can be messy.
Where do we go when we arrive?
Everyone begins the morning in the Sanctuary in the Meeting House for approximately the first 15 minutes of the service. Families may sit together and children and youth often enjoy sitting with their friends.
Elements of the service before the children and youth are sung out to their classes by the Congregation include lighting the chalice, announcements, singing of a hymn and Words for All Ages, when generally a child-friendly story is told.
After Words for All Ages, the children leave the Sanctuary to meet their teachers in the Social Hall, who will walk them to their classes.
Parents are welcome to accompany children to class and stay in class with them if they choose. Your child is also welcome to stay in the service. Activity bags are available for children to use during the service.
What time does the nursery open and where is it?
Our nursery opens at 9:45am and is located on the bottom floor of the Religious Education (RE) Building.
Who will be teaching my child?
Teachers are volunteers from our congregation who enjoy teaching our next generation of UU’s. Teachers are trained by our Director of Lifespan Religious Education. There are always two adults in every classroom.
What if we have food allergies?
All our classrooms are peanut- and tree nut-free. Please let us know if there are any other food allergies we need to be aware of so we can ensure the safety of your child.
What if we have special food requirements?
If your child is lactose intolerant, gluten free, vegetarian or vegan, please let us know so we can accommodate these needs.
What does it cost to participate in the Religious Education Program?
There is no fee for our Religious Education program, including childcare during the Sunday service.
All children and youth must be registered for our program at the beginning of each new church year which begins in August.
Do I pick my child up from class?
Classes end at 11:45am. Parents of children in nursery through 4th grade are asked to pick up their children from their classrooms. Students in 5th through 12th grade will meet their grownups in the Social Hall at the conclusion of their classes.
Is it ok to breastfeed in the Sanctuary during the service?
We welcome any and all questions! For more information, please contact our Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Susanne Hinson-Rieger, at email@example.com or 317-418-1679.
