This Sunday in RE

Dear Beautiful UUI Families,

Can you believe Memorial Day weekend is upon us? If your family is traveling for the holiday, I'm wishing you a safe and wonderful time!

If you are in town this weekend, I hope you will join us on Sunday morning! This week we're starting our Summer Religious Exploration Program for Children and Youth!

This week, in preparation for our Summer Harry Potter & Hogwarts RE Adventure, our Preschoolers, K-2nd Graders and 3rd - 5th Graders will be learning about the different Hogwarts Houses they will be sorted into soon (this year kids at UUI will be sorted into the same houses from the books and movies), and they will make wands and trunks to store all their "school" supplies in for the summer.

Our junior high youth will be discussing and planning their summer classes and playing some fun games.

Our senior high youth will be working on the Babies and Bailouts project.

It's going to be an amazing morning! Come be a part of it!

Peace and Love,

Susanne Hinson-Rieger
Director of Lifespan Religious Education

Nursery

Nursery care is available this week from 9:30am to noon.

The earlier time is to support grownups bringing children to church who want to attend the Morning Meditation Group Meetings in the Cottage, starting at 9:30am or other before-church activities.

Sermon

"On Chaos Muppets and Order Muppets" by Jamie Hinson-Rieger

Lawyer and writer Dahlia Lithwick said that all muppets can be classified as either order muppets or chaos muppets. Think Bert and Ernie. Some of us thrive in orderly and predictable environments. Some of us like it when things get a little messy. As it happens, in life, we will have plenty of experience of both! This service asks the question, are you an order muppet or a chaos muppet, and how do we deal personally and philosophically with life's unpredictability? Are we left to our own devices? Or is there someone/something ultimately pulling the strings?

Reflection

Worship Associate Elizabeth Valencia will be sharing a personal reflection called "#RamadanReflections - Building Community in Ramadan."

Peace Camp

That each and every person is important, that all people should be treated fairly and kindly and that we should work for a peaceful, fair and free world--these are just some of the lessons our Padawan, or Jedi apprentices, will be learning on our beautiful campus during their week at Jedi Academy.

We'll be learning through games, art, maker space, music and more!

Ages: Camp is for kids 4 years old - 6th grade or homeschool/unschool equivalent as of May, 2019.

Camp Dates: Monday, July 15 - Friday, July 19

Second Sunday

Our May "Second Sunday" is this weekend! UUI will provide the main course and everyone who is willing and able is invited to bring a dish to share. We'll gather for lunch following the Service. All are welcome! After lunch we will have Book Group in the Cottage Library and Spiritual Writing Group in the Cottage Chalice Room. We will also be working on the labyrinth and doing a labyrinth walk, weather permitting.

Junior & Senior High Youth

Our junior and senior high youth are invited to be camp counselors for Peace Camp in July! Counselors do not have to attend UUI to participate. We have spots available for 7th - 12th graders (or homeschool/unschool equivalent).
