Indy Folk Series 2004/5 Season

Posted on November 23, 2004

The Indy Folk Series promises a fabulous lineup of acoustic musicians for its fourth annual popular series at  UUI on Saturday nights.
February 19:  Hogeye Navvy, a favorite local band that blends Celtic and American music with British and American sea chanteys.
March 19:  Monroe County Bluegrass Band. Straight-ahead bluegrass from a band with the inspiration, the pedigree and the wherewithal to get it right.
April 23:  Our season closes with Beth Lodge-Rigal, a singer-songwriter from Bloomington described as offering "nearly flawless manipulations for rhythm and melody" and as "so talented that any state would be proud to claim her."  As an additional attraction, Hot Flash, with UUI's own Liz Efroymson, will also perform a set.  This is a duo not to be missed-a very special treat.
All concerts begin at 7 P.M. in the UUI Sanctuary.  Admission is $8 (except Open Mike Night, which is $5).  Delicious treats and beverages are available and child care is provided.

Alternative Christmas Fair

Posted on November 13, 2004

The UUI Social Responsibility Committee is sponsoring the Sixth Annual Alternative Christmas Fair on Sunday, November 21. This is your opportunity to do your Christmas shopping and at the same time make a difference to those in need. Global Gifts, whose inventory represents handicrafts from more than thirty Third World countries, will once again bring some of their wares.  A purchase allows you to check off an item from your Christmas list as well as support artisans who would be unemployed or underemployed if not for Global Gifts.

Don't know what to buy someone on your Christmas shopping list?  We will also feature catalogs, flyers and websites for other deserving groups such as Heifer Project International, Trees for Life and Martin Luther King Jr. Multi-Service Center.  A donation in someone's name to one of these organizations makes a meaningful gift while at the same time providing support to a worthy cause. We invite you to join us in the spirit of the season by focusing on the those who truly need our gifts.
