I Cannot Keep From Sinning

Posted on April 22, 2006

My life flows on in endless wrong,

Beneath Life’s expectations,

I yield to all my baser whims,I can’t resist temptations.

Through all the ups and downs of life,

I plot a crafty skinning —

When’er I can — of friend or foe.

I cannot keep from sinning.

I’m gleeful for the careless way

I break each resolution.

Refraining from diablerie

I strike out every inning.

I’m sneaking in my bouts with porn,

With fantasies beginning.

I’ve let down all the barriers.

I cannot keep from sinning.

Tho’ guilt hangs heavy in my heart,

I know I’ve chucked salvation.

Each day I plan a turn-about,

But I lack determination.

At pompous moral indignations

I cannot keep from grinning.

I go my way what’er the cost.

I cannot keep from sinning.

Green Sanctuary Program

Posted on March 25, 2006

UUI’s Green Sanctuary Program Task Force began developing the UUI action plan at its monthly meeting March 7. The first step will be a complete environmental audit of the UUI campus facilities.

To this end, all areas of the church environment were identified and committee members were assigned to investigate their current status. They include:

1. Development of a survey for UUI members and friends to identify current individual attitudes, understandings and suggestions

2. Energy usage (gas, lights, building materials, thermostats, appliances, insulation, windows)

3. Chemical use (cleaning materials, bathrooms, kitchen, RE, lawn, driveway sealant, painting, remodeling)

4. Consumables (bathroom, kitchen, RE, office)

5. Recycling

6. Existing policies, procedures and guidelines

7. Water usage (low-flow faucets, commodes, community garden, lawn)

8. Programming

9. Landscaping (shade, energy for lawn care, use of plants, garden)

10. Outreach beyond the UUI congregation

11. Investment strategy

Your help is needed. In order to successfully complete this initial audit, it is vital that the Task Force gets input from all UUI members and friends who have any information about these eleven areas. In the days and weeks ahead, Task Force members will be talking to many of you.
