The arts energize congregational life on many levels, uplifting mind, body, and spirit. Music and visual art of high quality and from a diversity of cultures, styles, and textures, plays a central role in our worship services, as well as weekly activities. Our creative vision is an inclusive one, where all ages participate, listen, experience, and enjoy a variety of creative arts.
Programs such as the adult choir, Winter Solstice choir, guitar circle, drum circle, folk ensemble, and instrumental ensemble provide opportunities for members and friends to develop and share their musical gifts with the church community. Special music is a regular part of Sunday services; soloists and small ensembles, instrumental and vocal, are encouraged to share their talents with the congregation. Music can range anywhere from art music to self-composed songs.
Music Director, Dianna Davis <music(at)uui.org>, provides professional leadership of the music program with support from talented volunteer staff as well as the Music Committee.
Groups such as the photography club and knitting group, and monthly exhibit opportunities create an arts community that challenges themselves and provides occasions to display their creative abilities. Art exhibits or holiday decorations, organized by the Fine Arts Committee, beautify our Sanctuary year-round. Art works displayed include paintings, mixed media, fiber, photography, and more. The artwork may be from groups such as INfiber and INprint (to which some church members belong), our youth, or church-wide participation in theme-based exhibits.
